What Others Are Saying
I have been looking for a while for a rock guide who would not just be a rope gun and drag guests up a route, but who could also be a true mentor, teach skills less commonly utilized or even known by most of the climbers, and provide suggestions on improving as a climber. I found that person in Kevin. His passion for climbing and depth and breadth of knowledge, from anchor building, multipitch efficiency, big wall and self-rescue techniques, is impressive. Each trip was personalized and tailored to fit my goals and answer my questions, which is something quite unusual compared with other regular guided experiences. I am looking forward to climbing with Kevin again.
Kevin is an exceptional teacher. The line between a good teacher and a good climber is sometimes overlooked, but in this case, it makes all the difference. I have had the opportunity to participate in other courses where the teacher was mostly in a monologue. Kevin explains, let us make our mistakes, observe, and corrects us effectively. He takes the time to teach us not only what we want to learn, but what is necessary to understand; he emphasizes on subtle mistakes that could makes all the difference.
I truly enjoyed climbing with Kevin and look forward to going out with him again.
Kevin helped identify a few options that would fit what I was looking for. In the end, it was exactly what I was looking for. The route difficulty was right in line with what I wanted, a perfect amount of challenge, without being too easy or hard. Kevin knew his stuff very well and prepped me for what I needed to know at that moment and what would be coming next. He also had all the answers I asked about climbing and the surrounding area. Couldn't be happier with Kevin, the climb and the overall experience.
Climbing with Kevin was a wonderful experience.
The professional skills and competency are all there, no question about it, but it was the fun of climbing with Kevin that made it much more like climbing with a good friend who was super psyched about getting you to do the best climbing you've ever done.
I approached Kevin about climbing Castleton Tower when I was out on a two-month climbing tour of the American West, but I wasn't quite sure if it was in my abilities. Kevin put together a shake-out day to gauge my skills and told me that it was possible, it would be hard, but doable.
And as it turned out, it was. I did the hardest and best climbing I have ever done, on an iconic tower in an amazing landscape, and we had an awesome incredible day doing that thing that climbers live for. Can't ask for more than that.
Kevin is what he advertises.
Did the Big Wall Clinic with Kevin and can’t recommend it enough. Even after periods of not climbing, I felt like I still remembered so much of what I learned over the three days. Very committed and relatable teacher. Wouldn’t want to learn from anyone else.
I took Kevin's big wall class at the beginning of a big climbing trip. Being from the East Coast, I didn't have much opportunity to explore big wall and aid skills. For me, reading books and watching videos only goes so far. The real time feedback coupled with the hands on skills gave me confidence in a weekend that would have taken me weeks to build by myself. Kev was a great teacher and I can't recommend his clinics enough.
Kevin took me on my first ever multi pitch and second climb ever, a truly amazing experience! He was super encouraging and made sure I was safe.
To this day I still think of Kevin cheering me on when I’m climbing.
Had a fantastic time climbing with Kevin. He was knowledgeable, helpful, and I learned a ton. Not sure when I'll make it out west again, but he's at the top of my list to reach out to once I do!
I took Kevin's self rescue course in October 2023 and I learned so many useful tools to help me feel safer and more confident climbing outside, especially on multipitch routes. There are so many little things that can go wrong when you're climbing outside, and this course provides the necessary tools to help get you and your partner out of almost any pickle, and safely back to the ground. I think this course should be required for anyone who climbs outside, I would feel a lot better if all of my future climbing partners knew these skills (how to pass a knot, how to ascend a rope, how to reach a fallen and injured leader and safely lower them and yourself to the ground, amongst many other things). I'm very grateful to Kevin for teaching me these skills, he is a great teacher and is extremely knowledgeable on all climbing related topics. So if you climb outside and don't have any self-rescue / leader rescue related knowledge, I highly recommend taking this class. you won't regret it!
